Egyptian President Mohammed Mursi on Monday sacked the powerful army chief and annulled a constitutional amendment issued by the generals, in a drastic move by the new-to-power Islamists to shuffle the top brass of the entrenched military.
Former premier Kamal Ganzouri has been appointed Egypt's new prime minister but protesters vowed to step up pressure on the country's military rulers and called for renewed agitation to demand the army quit power.
On a three-day visit to Egypt, the first by a senior Indian leader after last year's revolution, Krishna met the head of current military-led government, Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, Prime Minister Kamal Al Ganzhoury as well as his counterpart Mohamed Kamel Amr.
